My name is Matteo Silvestri and I’ve been working in first-class catering for 15 years.

My first experience in a Michelin-starred restaurant was in 2009 at Il San Pietro di Positano, one of the finest hotels in the entire world, known for its beauty and excellent service. In that cellar, full of bottles, it was love at first sight. Listening to the sommelier describing a bottle of wine, looking at the grace in pouring it out, being captivated by the ritual of uncorking made me decide what I wanted to do in life.

My professional growth continued at the most prestigious properties in the area: Le Sirenuse in Positano, Santa Caterina in Amalfi as a Maitre D’, JKPlace in Capri as a Restaurant Manager/Sommelier and lately Casa Angelina in Praiano as a Head Sommelier. I also had the chance to learn about the french wines during an experience in St. Barth, French West Indies in the Caribbean Sea, at the wonderful 5* resort Le Guanahani.

It took a while before landing to the sommelier course, completed officially in 2019 but the training had lasted 15 years. The opportunity to work side-by-side with industry professionals in top-class hotels with noteworthy cellars and my curiosity have forged my figure as a qualified sommelier.

I also hold a Master’s degree in Wine Tourism, obtained at Sole24Ore Business School in 2021 and attended training courses in oil and cheese tasting.

Throughout these past 15 years, my constant thought was how to transform my passion into something more. These words of Confucius come to mind: “Choose the job you like and you will never work a day of your life”. Combining passion and professionalism was my project: and now I am at disposal of all those who want to discover the beautiful vineyards and local products my land has to offer.
